The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of shift work on the psychomotor and postural performance of night workers. The study included 20 polysomnography technicians working schedule of 12-h night shift by 36-h off. On the first day of protocol, the body mass and height were measured, and an actigraph was placed on the wrist of each participant. On the second day of protocol, sleepiness by Karolinska Sleepiness Scale, postural control by force platform (30 seconds) and psychomotor performance by Psychomotor Vigilance Task (10 minutes) were measured before and after 12-h night work. Results showed that after 12-h night work, sleepiness increased by 59% (p<0.001), postural control variables increased by 9% (p = 0.048), and 14% (p = 0.006). Mean reaction time, and the number of lapses of attention increased by 13% (p = 0.006) and 425% (p = 0.015), respectively, but the mean reciprocal reaction time decreased by 7%. In addition, there were correlations between sleepiness and postural control variables with opened eyes (r = 0.616, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.361–0.815; r = 0.538; 95% CI = 0.280–0.748) and closed eyes (r = 0.557; 95% CI = 0.304–0.764, r = 0497; 95% CI = 0.325–0.715) and a pronounced effect of sleepiness on postural sway (R2 = 0.393; 95% CI = 0.001–0.03). Therefore, 12-h night work system and sleepiness showed a negative impact in postural and psychomotor vigilance performance of night workers. As unexpected, the force platform was feasibility to detect sleepiness in this population, underscoring the possibility of using this method in the workplace to prevent occupational injuries and accidents. 相似文献

The structure of 42 natural populations of the endangered fern Osmunda regalis was studied at the southern limit of its European distribution. The aims were to i) investigate the population structures and status of the species; ii) test which local habitat and population characteristics correlate with the different population structures in the Mediterranean area; iii) evaluate which habitat types are suitable to support viable populations. The structure of populations is determined by the attribution of different stages of development of the sporophyte. This study documented the life-stage structure of O. regalis using an original classification of life stages that may be applicable to other fern populations with similar morphology. Using statistical analyses we distinguished: i) dynamic populations, which are characterized by a large proportion of sporelings and vegetative adults and are associated with streams and nemoral species; ii) stable populations, with a higher proportion of generative adults, growing prevalently in habitats rich in hygrophilous grasses and shrubs, with lower tree cover; iii) senile populations, with a relatively higher proportion of senescent individuals and with marked rejuvenation dominated by vegetative adults, which are prevalently located in spring swamps. The proportion of senescent stage individuals is positively correlated with the mean geographic distance between populations. Spring swamps, with populations that provide a clear example of remnant dynamics, are the habitat with the most stable conditions for O. regalis in the Mediterranean area. 相似文献

Summary Gramineae pollination from a pollen monitoring station located in the eastern suburb of Perugia and meteorological correlations are reported. The data refers to the year 1989. Grass pollen peak pollination was from May to July; in this period the influence of relative humidity and of temperature on pollen concentration was very high. Phenological observations, to identify the time of maximum stamen extension in the most common genera in the area, are also reported. During the period of investigation the counts of pollen grains over four-hour periods showed a regular diurnal rhythm with peaks of concentration in the four-hour period 16.00–20.00. The organization of the nuclear ribosomal units of five different species of Chlamydomonas has been examined by hybridization of their nuclear DNA fragments produced by several restriction endonucleases with a radioactively labelled probe consisting of the two cloned BamHI ribosomal fragments of C. reinhardii. The results indicate that a) the ribosomal units of these five species are structurally related, b) changes in the non transcribed spacer occur in C. eugametos and in C. globosa, c) the rDNA unit of C. intermedia contains either an enlarged internal transcribed spacer or a ribosomal intervening sequence, d) the rDNA units of C. reinhardii and C. callosa are indistinguishable. 相似文献

The cardiovascular benefits associated with diets rich in fruit and vegetables are thought to be due to phytochemicals contained in fresh plant material. However, whether processed plant foods provide the same benefits as unprocessed ones is an open question. Melanoidins from heat-processed apricots were isolated and their presence confirmed by colorimetric analysis and browning index. Oxidative injury of endothelial cells (ECs) is the key step for the onset and progression of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), therefore the potential protective effect of apricot melanoidins on hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative mitochondrial damage and cell death was explored in human ECs. The redox state of cytoplasmic and mitochondrial compartments was detected by using the redox-sensitive, fluorescent protein (roGFP), while the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) was assessed with the fluorescent dye, JC-1. ECs exposure to hydrogen peroxide, dose-dependently induced mitochondrial and cytoplasmic oxidation. Additionally detected hydrogen peroxide-induced phenomena were MMP dissipation and ECs death. Pretreatment of ECs with apricot melanoidins, significantly counteracted and ultimately abolished hydrogen peroxide-induced intracellular oxidation, mitochondrial depolarization and cell death. Lithofacies analysis of the upper part of the Pliocene succession of the Valdelsa basin (central Italy) unravelled a number of depositional environments, ranging from alluvial plain to coastal, to marine. Strata are arranged in a hierarchy of elementary and composite unconformity-bounded units. A palaeoecological study of macro- (molluscs) and microfossils (pollen, dinocysts, foraminifera) allowed to finely reconstruct sub-environments within fine-grained terrestrial, coastal and marine deposits and thence to track the spatial and temporal change of physical conditions. The stacking pattern of sedimentary units highlights the lateral switching of onshore-offshore gradients and documents relative sea-level changes. These units are interpreted in a sequence stratigraphic framework. Elementary depositional sequences are arranged to form six composite depositional sequences, in turn encased within two major synthems. This hierarchy of unconformity-bounded sedimentary units suggests that sea-level variation has occurred at different time-frequencies. Glacio-eustasy and active tectonism are discussed as the main forcing factors regulating the different scales of sedimentary cyclicity. 相似文献
